Sharing Events

We will carry out various public engagement activities with mixed audiences to encourage further engagement with the heritage.

Nigeria Day Events

There will be two ‘Nigeria Day’ public sharing events – one at the Black Cultural Archives and the other at Stratford Library.  Each day will involve:

  • Exhibition of project research materials documenting the achievements and contributions of British Nigerians to the British society.
  • Display of Nigerian arts and artefacts, managed by Kiskirine Events Planners.
  • ‘Come and Try’ workshop sessions, exploring, for example, arts of the Kingdom of Benin as a tool for empowering people; Nigerian beads making, Nigerian head wrapping, etc.
  • An original musical-theatre performance inspired by the research findings.

Schools’ Outreach programme

To encourage young people’s participation and enjoyment of the heritage, we will organise project performances, exhibitions, discussions and hands-on workshops in five schools across London.  Pupils, teachers and parents will be introduced to the heritage through guided tour of the exhibition and displays, followed by Q&A sessions.

Hands-on workshops exploring oral storytelling, music, dance, arts and crafts from Nigeria will also take place with the school pupils.

Engagement with Senior Citizens

In collaboration with EastBank Seniors, Healtogether CIC and other organisations working with senior citizens, we will provide opportunities for senior citizens to engage in the project through hands-on arts and crafts workshops, exploring barehand beads making inspired by the coral beads making from the Kingdom of Benin.
