Nigeria participated in World War II as a British colony on the side of the Allies. Nigerian soldiers fought mostly in Burma and India. Despite the successful fighting record of the troops, none of the Commanding Officers were from Nigeria. After the War the Soldiers were promised a War Bonus but many were not paid it Nigerians made up more than half of the total force of 90,000 West African Soldiers deployed to South East Asia after 1943.
